Galveston-Trivandrum Sister City Society members and the NORKA officials representing Kerala government met with Dr. Cary Cooper, PhD, Dean of Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences of University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston Texas on July 18, 2005. They discussed the opportunities of affiliation of the sister city medical universities in regard to student and faculty exchange, joint research projects, participating in brief clinical rotations between the sister city medical universities, opportunity for students from Kerala to utilize the most modern library resources of UTMB, telemedicine etc. UTMB is the world leader in Telemedicine and they have done more encounters than anyone in the world. UTMB is one of the two centers in USA doing research on tropical infectious diseases like dengue fever and other most dangerous infectious diseases in the world. They have world renowned research leaders and have gained more knowledge in some of the dangerous diseases like dengue fever which kills hundreds of people in Kerala and can be utilized their knowledge in saving lives in Kerala. They are also leaders in doing research on Malaria and other tropical diseases. Overall this meeting and possibility of association between this two sister city medical universities will be of great importance to the health of citizens of Kerala and India.

The meeting was very productive and Dean Cooper was very much impressed and agreed to get all other deans (School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of allied Health science) to buy in this project of sister city medical university affiliation. They agreed to meet Mr. Gigi Thompson, the principal secretary to Chief Minister of Kerala and Chief Minister of Kerala during his visit to USA. We request everyone to support this effort to link between the sister city medical universities. Thank you.
